Gelsenkirchen city Attractions

Are you want to visit Gelsenkirchen city in Germany ?....
You must know something about the city. Here you can find more information about gelsenkirchen city...
Gelsenkirchen is a city in the western part of Germany located on the north of Rheine-Westphalia. The population of the city estimates approximately 270 thousand of people. Gelsenkirchen was the most important coal mining town in Europe.

It was called the "City of a Thousand Fires", for the flames of mine gasses flaring at night. There are several historic buildings in Gelsenkirchen city, which are even today tourist attractions. Some of these are the Luttinghof Mansion, which is the city's oldest historical building; the Schloss Berge, and the Schloss Horst. Gelsenkirchen city can also be called "The Green City" with over one-third of the city being covered with parks, forests, and meadows.

Highlights of City:
  • Gelsenkirchen was the most important coal mining town of Europe.
  • The largest solar power plant of Germany is located in Gelsenkirchen city. Gelsenkirchen city has developed into a national business and research center for solar technology.
  • Gelsenkirchen is home of the famous football club Schalke 04, which is named after the borough Schalke, while the club's arena, the Veltins-Arena, is located in the borough Erle.
Tourist places in Gelsenkirchen:

1)Veltins-Arena:
The stadium is one of the most technically advanced in Europe with its combination of retractable roof, slide-out pitch, and movable South Stand. The area around the Veltins-Arena is of little interest in terms of entertainment, though there are a Multiplex cinema and some food outlets on the complex that also include the remains of the old Parkstadion.

The stadium was one of the venues for the 2006 World Cup. However, because FIFA controls all sponsorship associated with its tournaments (including that of competition venues), the arena was called FIFA World Cup Stadium Gelsenkirchen during the World Cup.There are two hotels in the close vicinity of the stadium: the Courtyard by Marriott comes in the high-end category, while the Hotel Arena is for those with a more modest budget.

Zoom Erlebniswelt:

The ZOOM Experience in Gelsenkirchen is the world of experience transformed, former Ruhr Zoo. Support of the zoo is the Society for Energy and Economic mbH, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Gelsenkirchen.
The 3 main sections are Africa, Asia and Alaska. there is a good collections of animals and birds, like Lions, Owls, hyenas, rhinos and of course monkeys and chimps and other animals. There are several good zoos in Germany, with a lot of animals from all over the world, plenty of space for most ot the animals and good education programs for children. There are two things that make the zoo special: - The three parts, Alaska, Africa & Asia are completely separated, which means they can be explored on 3 different.

Schalke Museum:
-->

The Shalke Museum (Arenaring) is the Gelsenkirchen museum dedicated to one of Germany’s favorite pastimes, football (or, for my US friends, soccer). More specifically, the Shalke Museum is a celebration of the popular local football team, FC Shalke.

In one trip, you can learn everything you ever wanted to know about Gelsenkirchen’s beloved team. This Gelsenkirchen City Museum boasts around 1,300 exhibits and is the museum in town. This Gelsenkirchen attraction features mainly works of art from throughout the centuries. From classic art to contemporary, to kinetic art, constructivism and graphic art, you will be treated to a feast for the eyes at Gelsenkirchen City Museum.
-->The best fact of all is that visitors to Gelsenkirchen can experience all this knowledge and the interesting exhibits for absolutely nothing admission is free..
